PROFESSIONAL SUMMARY

My most recent professional experience was a full-time contract teaching position at Mile 108 Elementary in School District 27. Previously, I had a part-time contract teaching position at Lac La Hache Elementary, as well as working as a Teacher On-Call.  I pursued an open communication policy with my class, creating a safe and positive learning environment.  I implemented organizational strategies and routines while allowing the students to experiment with different learning strategies, helping them to achieve their educational goals.  I endeavoured to maintain a balance between visual experimentation and written assignments.   I gained further skills and experience for working with special needs students and learning assistance programs.

During my years as a noon-hour supervisor I strived to keep a positive relationship with the students while inspiring them to respect rules and each other.  I found it important to keep the doors of communication open with the students so they felt safe and comfortable enough to express any concerns, as well as share their positive stories and experiences with me.

My experience as co-owner of Action Fitness has also enhanced my communication and interaction skills, as I continually experience varying levels of communication with clients.  I have become skilled in dealing with a wide range of personalities, adapting to their individual needs.  My duties in running the business have also kept my organizational and critical thinking skills sharp, especially when teaching the group fitness classes and creating personal training programs.

WORK HISTORY

SCHOOL DISTRICT 27

Full-Time Classroom Teacher | Mile 108 Elementary | September 2018-June 2019

I was responsible for planning, teaching, and assessing for the complete grade seven curricula.  I reported grades on both the SD 27 My Education online system and the Freshgrade online reporting system.  Due to my previous classroom experience at Lac La Hache Elementary, I am familiar with the new BC Curriculum.  The classroom dynamics included two students on Individualized Education Plans, and I adapted the curriculum to accommodate their learning needs.  As part of our Environmental studies, I took the class to the School District 27 Outdoor Education camp at Gavin Lake, British Columbia.

SCHOOL DISTRICT 27

Part-Time Classroom Teacher | Lac La Hache Elementary | January 2018-June 2018

I was responsible for planning, teaching, and marking Science and Social Studies for the intermediate class, grades three to seven.  I did the reporting for these two subjects on the SD 27 My Education online system.  I am familiar with the new BC Curriculum and applied this knowledge to my teaching.  I also assisted the students with their other subjects including Math, Language Arts, Computer Skills, and Physical Education.  Our First Nations studies included a drum-making workshop with a member of the Canim Lake Band.  The class consisted of a four-grade split including 3 identified special needs students.  After researching the curriculum for the four grades, I adapted the lessons to accommodate each learning level and provided individualized instruction to the identified students.
